IN
RETROSPECT, it was ironic for this action to have taken place in November,
for after this operation was concluded, we were air lifted by HUEYS to
our division headquarters at Cu Chi. By now, we were nearing the end of
the month, and back at the base camp the mess hall was preparing for Thanksgiving.
In my memory will always be the two drab, olive-colored trailers (ones
commonly seen on military installations or on television pulled by jeeps)
which were parked outside the mess hall. Each was filled with ice: one
was full of soft drinks, and the other with beer. This abundance of drinks
impressed me more than the festivities.
