Andy Emert 80's - 90's |
---|
My name is Bob Silva and was a friend of Andy Emert in the 80's-90's. Andy and I became friends sometime after he left KSLY in San Luis Opispo and had been well established as a Watchmaker at the Sears store off of Florin road in the 80's. Andy wasnt really considering radio anymore and had consigned himself to being a watchmaker. Well the past came up at times in our conversations as we were both in recovery programs and we were both trying to find our way. One day Andy whom had an enormous collection of lp's mostly from garage sales and myself with a lot of Audio gear purchased In Germany while I was in the service -volunteered to have Andy be the DJ and me the Audio guy so to speak at a recovery home dance in Coloma Ca."Progress House". It was a resounding success mainly due to Andy's talent for the most part. A resident at the recovery home really had a good time and said we have nothing to pay you and picked up some burnt toast and said here is your pay in which we all laughed. On the way back down from Coloma Andy was thinking we could do this again and made business cards and Tshirts for our little business calling ourselves Burnt Toast Enterprises. This thing really started to grow and became an obsession for Andy. I eventually broke away as my career in Telecom took off and took me away to different parts of the country. Andy was on fire for Rock and soon submitted a resume for KZAP "Meca" in his words. I remeber once sitting with Andy at KZAP in the "little'booth at Midnights thinking wow Andy look at what you have done with this obsession-I was greeen with Envy. Andy and I eventually drifted apart due to careers and life. I loved KRFD and knew it was Andy for sure, the passion of in purest form. Sometime later after the demise of KRFD, having not visited with Andy in sometime, (about a month before he died) Andy appeared quite despondent, a month later I learned of his death. I miss him greatly. Bob Silva |
