Those who've visited my Mountaineering
Page know that I prefer the Southern Sierra, to any other part of that wonderful
mountain range. The Southern Sierra is higher and much more interesting and
challenging. However, I do live in the City of Sacramento, California, and have
spent a fair amount of time in the Lake Tahoe region of the Sierra Nevada. This
area is fabulous for rock climbing, backcountry skiiing, hiking and even some
mountaineering. It is very heavily utilized and thus has some of the most restrictive
access controls of any "wilderness" region. However, it is still a great place
to go. If the Southern Sierra is the "steak," the Tahoe area is a great "appetizer."
